Skittles Forced To Change Website

According to Mashable.com and Skittles.com, Skittles has changed their homepage from a Twitter search to a Facebook page. They were forced to changed it because of bad jokes and racial slurs but Skittles says they may "rotate the various social media channels on the homepage."

Personally, I think it was, and is, a mistake for a company to use a social media page as their homepage. If they want to be involved in the social networks, that's great! However, they should have complete control over the content of their homepage.

It'll be interesting to see if they revert back to Twitter on the homepage; although I think it brought more attention to Twitter than to Skittles...

I wonder if they consider it a unforeseen failure or a calculated experiment.

Skittles

In an unprecedented move, as first reported by John Battelle, Skittles' homepage is just a Twitter search for the term "skittles". I'm VERY surprised that a company with a brand as Skittles would do something like this. Although it'll receive a lot of attention, once people realize they can say ANYTHING, including posting links to the Skittles' homepage, they'll have to take it down. If anything, it brings awareness to Twitter...

We'll see how this one unfolds...
